26.08.2010 - Chronically Ill Patient: "The checkpoint makes me sicker than I already am". The World Health Organization (WHO) in Jerusalem is raising the issue of access to health for Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory. The first issue of a series of portraits highlights the case of Noor, a woman from the West Bank, who has to attend dialysis in East Jerusalem. Three times a week she has to cross an Israeli checkpoint. Chronically ill and barely able to walk she is meticulously searched almost every time. 26.08.2010 - WHO issues its monthly report of July on Referral of Patients from the Gaza Strip: The report reveals that out of a total of 947 patient applications for permits to cross Erez, the Israeli authorities denied or delayed 16.7% of them. Cardiovascular diseases, oncology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery and orthopedics remain the major reasons for referral, accounting for almost half of all referred cases.More
05.08.2010 - Indicators on child well-being show corrosive trends - UNICEF publishes its monthly report of July: The report reveals that stunting rates are up; enrolment rates are down; and learning achievement has plummeted. Violence is pervasive, especially for adolescents who come into direct contact with the conflict, but also at home and in schools.
